On Friday 14 March, we celebrated Pi Day at The Holgate Academy. Pi Day is a special occasion for maths enthusiasts and is celebrated on the same date each year, as the numbers three, one, and four are the first three significant digits of Pi. Pi is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant—the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter—which is approximately 3.14159.

To celebrate this special day, our year 7 students were tasked with working in groups of four to create paper chains representing Pi. Using 10 different colours of A4 paper, they needed to create the longest paper chain possible to represent the digits of Pi, and they only had 20 minutes to complete the task.

Our winning team managed to make an impressive 103 paper chains. This great effort required excellent teamwork and attention to detail. Well done to our winning team, who were awarded a prize during our year 7 assembly. Our year 7 students thoroughly enjoyed the task and worked extremely well in their groups to create some fantastic paper chains. A big well done to all who took part in the exercise!
