On Monday 24 March, students from year 11 and sixth form visited Sherwood Observatory to attend the STEM careers fair (science, technology, engineering, and maths), with a view to exploring future pathway opportunities.

The fair featured a wide range of exhibitors from the STEM field, including Nottingham Trent University, the RAF youth STEM team, Sherwood Observatory, West Notts College, ITP Aero Space Hucknall, Glenair, and the Hucknall Flight Test Museum. It was particularly exciting to see one of the exhibitors, ITP Aero Space Hucknall, represented by one of our Holgate alumni, Patrik Holodnak. Patrik shared insights into the opportunities he benefited from at Holgate and through his apprenticeship with ITP.

Students also had the chance to experience the newly established planetarium, where they enjoyed a 15-minute presentation showcasing the variety of shows available to the public. Following this, they split into small groups to explore the telescope, which has been a key feature at the observatory for over 40 years.

Our students were exceptional throughout the day and were a real credit to themselves and The Holgate Academy.
