On Wednesday 5 March, 30 of our students travelled to Kings Lynn to attend the Music for Youth festival. Two groups from Holgate performed in front of an audience along with two music mentors with the hope of making it to the National Festival 2025 in Birmingham later this year.
Our 25-strong choir, the largest it’s been for some time, performed three songs: ‘You Will Be Found’ from Dear Evan Hansen, ‘What Is This Feeling?’ from Wicked, and ‘When I Grow Up (Reprise)’ from Matilda. They were professional and positive throughout. A special mention to Connor for opening ‘You Will Be Found’ and to Jess and Ellouise for duetting ‘What Is This Feeling?’ — they can be extremely proud of their performances.
Our year 11 rock band, Black Fishfingers, had the audience dancing along with their two songs: ‘My Hero’ by Foo Fighters and ‘Brianstorm’ by Arctic Monkeys. They can rightfully be pleased with their performance and the feedback they received.
Both groups were excellent throughout the day, and feedback from the mentors was extremely positive. We are hopeful that they have done enough to make it to Birmingham later in the year. A big thank you to Lily, our vocal coach, for all her hard work with our choir.
